thought you might like to know the last word on the santa clara course:

i got fired! 

official reason was low student evaluations (2.9, spring course and 3.7 on
graduate  courses --not "out of 10", but "out of 5") --bull-fucking-shit!

the real reason is a letter sent by the dean to the chairman saying that
the "vice-president of the university does not want me teaching there".
(gee, it IS a catholic university, and i'm not catholic, but this is taking
things a bit far) --of course this dean is the guy who  got pissed a me
for teaching "philosophy to engineers", who  announced in the dean's meeting
that "there was no way that his [me] course would be taught in the engineering
school", who  has a reputation for "creativity when describing reality", and
who was told to resign.  unfortunately, the aforementioned VP is
out of town for at least the next three weeks, so the situation stands.

and what does the department do about this shit?  well, i'm going to send them
five pounds of veletta and a box of ritz crackers!  watch out for the farmer's
wife.
